My Music. My creative approach.

There are so many ways that composers do new music. We live in the early 21st Century. Music and composing has evolved, but the listeners have not evolved at the same rate. What sounds good is really a difficult thing these days.

I compose for the Human Receptor. I compose to communicate with that person. So I don’t use the more dissonant, strange methods unless the story or the drama of the subject requires going there. All music is really tonal. Even if one composes using a serial system, it is ultimately the choice of the composer selecting what sounds good, what sounds right to his or her ear. We don’t need to compose traditionally and be restrained in anyway creatively. But it is the ear, and the goals of the music that matters, at least to my way of working. I have composed music, especially from scoring so many films and TV shows that demand whatever style, idiom, genre possible. I have a wide range available.

I do my best to write music that communicates, that is ultimately good music.
